In this episode, Christabel talks to Priscilla Owusu, a writer and the founder of Just Read It, a repository of reviews of books by Black British, American, and African authors. She has also written for The British Blacklist, the online global home for African and African-Caribbean British creative professionals on the screen and stage.
A self-proclaimed ‘lover of a good book,’ Priscilla loves exploring the stories and creative expression people use to weave their narratives. She also loves discovering stories that put people from her community at the story's center. It’s something she’s always loved - listen as she tells Christabel how she re-wrote and re-imagined some of her favorite stories as a child.
Her love of writing has caught the team at 4th Estate Books’ attention at 4th Estate Books; her short story, ‘When the Tears Don’t Fall,’ was shortlisted for the ‘4thwrite’ prize in 2021.
Priscilla’s latest project looks at the importance of RnB and Soul in the civil rights movements from a Black British perspective, offering those sweet, fresh memories that make those genres so significant to the movement.
